Kayaking Guides British Columbia

Simply put, our energetic and devoted staff members are the reason our sea kayak trips are so successful. They are the most important resource any adventure travel company has, period! WeGo Kayaking operates its own sea kayak trips and therefore great care is taken in choosing who will represent our company. They are chosen for their caring nature, integrity, experience and highly developed outdoor skills. Our professional adult Leaders are certified in Wilderness First Aid (leaders level certification), C.P R. and S.K.G.A.B.C. or equivalent kayak leadership training. We are very proud of our staff members; they possess an exceptional spirit that combines humor, understanding and the unique ability to draw people together.

WeGo kayak trips are designed with a high level of client care in mind. Therefore we operate all of our kayak trips with a maximum of 10 guests (6 at our lodge) and a minimum of 2 guides. One of the best kayak trip guide to clients ratios in the industry.

We also put our guides through a rigorous, pre-season, in house training program annually to ensure that their kayaking and culinary skills are sharply honed for the coming season.

Mark Blackman - Operations Manager

Mark, originally from the UK, is in his 3rd year with WeGo. He's guided in Norway, France, Germany, Australia, New Zealand and BC. Before settling on BC Mark managed a large adventure centre in France and also holds a Bachelors degree in Adventure Tourism Management. When he's not kayaking, he's skiing and also enjoys whitewater, free skiing and anything vertical. Mark certainly has a sense of humor and a very quick wit that makes him a ton of fun to spend time with!

Christy Taylor - Lead Guide

Christy is in her 5th year of guiding in the Johnstone Straits! She holds a degree in Applied Ecotourism and Outdoor Leadership and demonstrates a standard of guiding surpassing expectation. In the winters Christy is a Nordic Ski Manager and holds a senior position in the management of Silver Star Mountain's Ski School. Christy's composed personality and self confidence contribute to an unforgettable kayak vacation.

Matt Edwards - Lead Guide

Born in Canada but grew up in Australia.
Matt recently graduated from Thompson Rivers University's Adventure Guide Program and is currently engaged in a sea kayaking expedition which began in Port Hardy in early May and will conclude in Haines Alaska in early July. Matt had an amazing winter ski guiding in the Sun Peaks backcountry but is his real passion is for water sports. A pre-occupation which has seen him travel the
world chasing rivers in a whitewater kayak or waves on his surf board. He is very excited to return for his second season of sea kayak guiding in the Johnstone Strait.

Carmen Pendleton - Assistant Lead Guide

Carmen returns for her second season and has risen into a quality leader in quick sharp time. Graduating from Capilano College in Squamish her thirst for adventure is driven by a love of the ocean and vertical rock faces. In the winter she teaches Cross Country skiing at Silver Star Mountain and coordinates operations at the resorts ski school. Her calming and attentive nature makes kayaking with Carmen an absolute pleasure.

Ash Charlton - Assistant Lead Guide

Back for his second season with WeGo after a year out filming, kayaking and diving in the Cook Islands, Ash (aka: Sanchez) is back! When it comes to being buoyant, Ash does this in more ways than one. All the way from Perth Western Australia, Ash is a specialist in customer service and is a natural ocean man. An exemplifying guide and true people person, you will want to take Ash home with you but that also means his kayak, surf board, snow baord, guitar and medley or friends too.

Jamie Thomas - Assistant Lead Guide

In an nutshell, Jamie is your regular Ms Ray of Sunshine. An East coaster with a personality so bubbly its guaranteed to put you at ease. Once a kayak guide in the Queen Charlotte Islands she brings experience and knowledge to our Johnstone Strait expeditions with WeGo this year. Jamie, also a Silver Star Mountain ski operative, boasts a level 3 ski instructor certification with the CSIA but cant wait to get on the water!

Once a WeGo always a WeGo!

We would like to give special thanks to the following guides for their hard work, integrity and attitude in providing exceptional service to client and company alike. We wish them all the very best of luck in the years to come!

Sophie Town - Lead Guide (2006/2007)

Before spending 2 years with WeGo, Sophie came to us from Australia. Back home in Oz she is a rowing coach for 12-18 year olds, so she has spent a lot of time on the water. With 10 years of kayaking experience she has well developed skills which, combined with her gentle easy going nature make learning from her a very pleasant experience! Her knowledge of the area and ability to bring groups together is as valuable as the kayak seats we sit on!

Chris Riddler - Assistant Lead Guide (2007)

Chris came to us in the mid season last year to fill one of our most important base camp positions. Chris is a calm, unassuming type of guy with a dry wit. He has an astounding knowledge of the Pacific North West's medicinal flora and also conducts scuba diving trips. He can spot a Humpback whale from more than 5 miles away and has made more cups of coffee per hour than anyone else ever.

Jaime Sharp - Lead Guide (2004/2005/2006)

Jamie is a man of the outdoors and shares his passion with everyone he meets. Not only a mind full of the facts about what lies above and beneath the surface, but a soulfully dedicated guide and an exceptional photographer.

Chris Joy - Assistant Lead Guide

What Chris brings to a team cannot be taught. A balanced and mature head with an electrifying personality, enriched by an invaluable array of life experiences. From Alaskan Fisherwoman to Social Worker, Chef to Boat Skipper, Chris is vibrantly enlightening. Her desires to interact with the natural surroundings are evident in her her extensive knowledge of the Pacific North West and having Chris around makes for an entertaining and stress free kayak trip.
